Land Deed, 1782 William Leddel Esq. to Jacob Arnold Esq. Sheriff’s Deed for Aaron Days Land on Suckasunna William Leddel’s Sheriff. Deede to Jacob Arnold Esquire To all people to whom these presents shall come I William Leddel Esquire high sheriff of the County of Morris in the state of New Jersey do send Greeting. Whereas John Boylan lately in the Inferior Court of Common Pleas at Morristown and for the said County of Morris and before the judges of the same Court in the Term of September in the year of our Lord seventeen hundred and eighty two by the judgment of the same court did recover against Aaron Day thirty four pounds and nineteen shillings Proclamation money of New Jersey for his damages which he had sustained as well by occasion of the nonperformance of certain promises and assumptions by the said Aaron to the said John lately made as also for his corts[] and changes by him about his suit in that behalf expended whereof the said Aaron is convicted as appears of recorded: And whereas Robert John lately with court aforesaid at Morristown aforesaid and before the judges aforesaid in the term of December in the aforesaid and by the judgment of the same Court did recover against Aaron Day twenty eight pounds twelve shillings and five pence money aforesaid for his damages which he had sustained as well by occasion of the nonperformance of certain promises and assumptions by the said Aaron to the said Robert lately made as who for his corts[] and changes by him about his suit in that behalf expended whereof the said Aaron is convicted as appears of recorded: And Whereas writh of the State of Fracias issued out of the Court aforesaid upon the judgment aforesaid to me directed being high Sheriff of said County of Morris whereby I was commanded to that of the Goods and Chatells Hereditaments, Real Estate, lands, and tenements which of the said Aaron Day in my Bailiwic I should came to be made the aforesaid several sums of money and that I should have the same before the judges aforesaid at Morristown aforesaid upon the return of of the said writh to render the said John Boylan and to the said Robert Johnson for their damages aforesaid as by the said writh of Facias duly inspected and recorded agreeably to the law in such case made and provides reference being thereunto had may more fully and at Large Appear: And Whereas by virtue of said writh I did take and Seize on all that Tract of land situate in the Township of Roxburry in the County aforesaid and adjoins the land of Phineas Fitz Randolph on SuccaSunny plains and is bounded Southerly by the road and Westerly by the lands of the widow of Silas Jennings deceased Northerly by land of Zephamiah Martin and Easterly by lands of Phineas Fitz Randolph containing about one hundred acres by the same more or less- Which tract of land and premises were by me duly advertised agreeably to Law to be sold on the ninth day of May last at Public vendue to be held upon the premises; on which day and place the same Tract of and Premises were by me accordingly exposed to sale at public vendue and out cry and thereupon Jacob Arnold of the said County of Morris did then and there bid for the same the sum of five pounds Proclamation money aforesaid and no person bidding more the said tract and premises were by me in some manner openly cryed of and sold to the said Jacob Arnold for the aforesaid five pounds money aforesaid. Wherefore now Know ye that I the said William Leddel in Exception of the Power and trust in me reposed and also for and consideration of the sum of six pounds Proclamation money of New Jersey to me in hand paid by the said Jacob Arnold before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have granted Bargained sold, Assigned, Confirmed Conveyed and Assured and by the[] these Presents do Grant, Bargain, sell Assure, convey and Confirm unto unto the said Jacob Arnold and to his heirs and Assigns forever all and singular the above bounded and discribed tract of land and premises with the appurtenances and also all the Estate, Right Tithe Interest property claim and demand whatsoever of his the said Aaron Day of in and to the same, To have and to hold the said Granted and bargained Premises with all and singular the profits Priviledges, Commodities, and appurtenances unto the Jacob Arnold his heirs and assigns to the only proper use benefit and behoof of the said Jacob Arnold his heirs and Assigns forever- and of the said William Leddel for my self my heirs Executors and Administrators do hereby Covenant and grant to and with the said Jacob Arnold his heirs and Assigns that the said William Leddel have not done suffered caused or procured to be done any Act matter or thing whereby the above bargained land and premises or any part thereof may be charged or incumbered in tithe State or otherwise howsoever.
