Note on back of photo "Mills house, Washington Street ~
"Aug. 1. 1895-This description was written by J.E. Parker. Part of Washington St. Morristown, in 1869- Where J.E. Bradner's sign is a few years before; B.O. Canfield had a dwelling house similar to the one in the photograph, which belonged to Alfred Mills. John Bates of Parsippany bought it and turned it into stores and also built on the garden, which extended to the street and now owned by O.C. Stiles and occupied by brad Sterns. I used to board with Mrs. P. O. Colebath in a brick house, the side of which was on the line of B.O. Canfield’s garden and about three feet from the street. Roomed with Timothy Burroughs. Mr. J.L. Stout bought the house which was called the Seward House, and moved it back-and and Kerstings and Masonic Hall buildings occupy the site now. Where C.M. Muir's sign is was a driveway between the Mills and Canfield houses. As also where Johnson's store is, was driveway. The
