Notes on back of photo: "Presented to the Morristown, N.J. Library by Andrew Sherman, November, 1919. Looking Northward Across the site of the Lowantica (Loantaca) Camping Grounds Winter of 1776-1777 At the right is the recent residence of Mr. A.B. Frost. The white star in the foreground marks, approximately, the center of the Lowantica Encampment, and indicates, also, approximately, the spot on which the flagpole stood, from which floated the Stars and Stripes." [This house was built by Vincent Boisaubin ca. 1800, and over time was occupied by Alfred M. Treadwell, A.B. Frost, and Heyward McAlpin] |
