This collection, acquired by the History Center over the course of nearly 100 years, contains thousands of photographs that provide a visual narrative of Morris County, New Jersey history. It started as a small collection, but in time has grown to over 10,000 items. Subjects include the Morris Canal, 19th century estates from the gilded age, historic sites from the Revolutionary War era, religious buildings, municipal buildings, and more. Additional subjects include street scenes and neighborhoods, individuals and groups, developments in transportation, ceremonies and celebrations, civic parades, equestrian events, World War I and World War II preparedness; and documentation of the police and fire departments, the Morristown Green and its surrounding areas, and the sites from Morristown National Historical Park.
